Ingredient Spotlight: Papaya & Pineapple - skincare super ingredients

Papaya & pineapple aren’t just delicious fruits to eat they also have great benefits for the skin!

Papaya is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, B & C. Both papaya & pineapple contain proteolytic enzymes such as papin & chymopapin (from papaya) and bromelain (from pineapple). These have been used for hundreds of years for digestion, overall health & fighting ailments. Proteolytic enzymes have an important function of breaking down proteins and also have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.

The antioxidants in papaya & pineapple help fight free-radical damage from the environment and sun. This helps the skin to stay youthful & smooth. The enzymes papain and chymopapain in papaya can decrease inflammation. The protein - dissolving papain is an excellent exfoliator and can help fight blemishes and acne prone skin by removing dead skin cells that can clog pores.

Papain can also remove damaged keratin that can build up on the skin and form small bumps. It has been suggested that papain is a viable treatment for scarring.1

Pineapple contains vitamins C & E which are antioxidants to fight daily pollution damage, brighten the skin and even out skin tone. Bromelain also gently exfoliates the dead skin cells and helps prevent blemishes & removes blackheads. If you do get a few pimples from time to time bromelain is a natural anti inflammatory so it will help reduce redness & swelling.

All in all, these two natural ingredients in our Clean Face and Hydrate Face products pack a powerful punch in fighting blemishes, redness, inflammation and environmental damage.
